Shipping & Returns▾
We believe that our business exists to serve you by supplying you with what you need to grow beautiful, healthy flowers. Our goal is to add more joy to your life!
However, gardening is an investment with inherent risk, and we cannot issue replacements, credit or refunds for undamaged tubers or plants that have failed for reasons we have no control over.
OUR GUARANTEE
We ship premium single division tubers or fully rooted cuttings that, with proper care, are guaranteed to grow and be true to name. We promise we will send you tubers or cuttings that are viable and healthy when they get to your home.
If a customer service inquiry falls within our policy we are happy to offer replacement tubers, credit, or a refund, depending on the timing of the inquiry.
Situations outside of our guarantee include:
• Failure to immediately place tubers in appropriate storage conditions; pot them; or plant them upon receipt
• Poor storage after receipt of your order in spring or fall
• Environmental conditions in your garden
• Growing tubers indoors
• Incorrect planting methods or damage while planting
• Exhausting tubers by taking cuttings
• Over or underwatering
• Over or under feeding
• Pest damage or animal theft (yes, this happens!)
GUARANTEE TIMELINE
For tubers that arrive damaged, you must reach out to us with at least one high quality photo or video (more is better) within three days of receipt of your order, confirmed by package tracking.
For tubers that fail to grow, you must reach out to us before June 1st of the same growing season.
For all other issues, you must reach out to us before October 1st of the same growing season.
DAMAGED TUBERS
If a tuber arrives damaged, we want to make it right for you as soon as possible! Damage during shipping and handling does occasionally occur, but please contact us immediately. We cannot replace damaged tubers more than a week after receipt of your order, confirmed by package tracking.
Replaceable damage scenarios:
• Broken necks
• Heat damage that causes extreme moisture loss
• Cold damage that causes frostbite
• Damp or dry rot detected upon arrival
Nonreplaceable scenarios:
• Moisture loss from orders not immediately stored, potted, or planted in appropriate medium upon receipt
• Broken sprouts (Don't worry: the tuber will regrow 1-4 new sprouts later from the same growth point)
• “Small” tubers (we don’t ship tiny tubers, and size makes no difference at all in the viability of a tuber)
• Tubers with cosmetic imperfections that do not affect growth
For damaged tubers we’re happy to offer replacements if they are still available in the same season. If we cannot send a replacement of that variety, we will send a credit for our next sale.
If there is no damage we can observe from the information you’ve provided us, we cannot issue a replacement, refund or credit.
FAILED PLANTS
There are dozens of reasons why plants may fail to grow to maturity, even if the tuber was healthy upon receipt. We promise to send you healthy tubers. After you take receipt of your order, responsibility for the success of your plants is in your hands, not ours.
CANCELLATIONS
We know life happens, and we want to work with you, with a few allowances to enable us to continue doing business.
No cancellations may be made after February 14th of the shipment year. This cut off date gives us a small amount of time to try to resell the tubers in your order.
Cancelled orders are subject to a processing fee of $10 or 7% of your order, whichever is greater.
ROOTED CUTTINGS POLICY
Cuttings can be a great way to grow dahlias. But because of the greater care required and the somewhat greater risk to you, we do not recommend them for beginners, or for busy people!
Please read our policies carefully before ordering cuttings.
BUYER ASSUMES RISK OF FROST DAMAGE
You are responsible for monitoring weather conditions in your area. Please do not place an order if weather conditions are not favorable. We cannot replace cuttings that freeze en route or after delivery if no one is available to take them inside immediately.
OUR GUARANTEE FOR ROOTED CUTTINGS
Our guarantee for cuttings is the same as for tubers: we promise to send you hardy, healthy stock, true-to-form.
However, rooted cuttings are more perishable than tubers and require immediate care to thrive, so we can't be responsible for damage to the plant after it reaches you, or for any other reason that's out of our control.
Please let us know within 24 hours of receipt of your package if there's been any damage from handling during shipping or if there are any mistakes with your order and we will take good care of you.
BLOOM AND TUBER PRODUCTION FROM CUTTINGS
We use no chemical hormones, and we use a 14/10 light cycle to give our cuttings plenty of rest while avoiding premature tuber formation during the propagation cycle - so there's no reason upon arrival at your garden that cuttings received from us should behave any differently from tubers in terms of bloom production and tuber formation.
There are many reasons why a plant may fail to bloom or produce tubers, and we're happy to troubleshoot with you if that occurs, but we cannot replace or refund plants that were healthy upon receipt.
DISEASE
We use no imports in the farm stock we sell; we monitor and inspect all our plants closely during the growing season; during the harvest; during propagation; and at shipping time. We sanitize our tools and we cull anything suspicious.
The nice thing about cuttings is that you usually know right away if they're healthy. If you have concerns about your plants, please reach out to us within 24 hours of receipt. After that, we cannot replace or refund.
Remember - the vast majority of dahlias (like the vast majority of humans) are carrying viruses and pathogens at all times asymptomatically, including most of the plants you already own.
Just like for you and me, the best defense against the appearance of disease symptoms in dahlias is maintaining good nutrition, adequate hydration, and a stress free environment.
